From it’s traditional Souq Waqif and exquisite Museum of Islamic Art to its man-made island—the Pearl, and landmark cultural icon Katara Cultural Village, Doha is on its way to becoming the Middle East’s most vibrant city. Doha Guide: Souq Waqif

The city is renowned for its captivating souqs (marketplaces), the largest of which is Souq Waqif. Picture an open-air market with rows of mud-rendered shops as far as the eye can see. The shops display glistening gold jewellery, Qatari dresses, including the striking bukhnoq (a covering for the head), spices and perfumes.

Doha Guide: The Museum of Islamic Art

World-famous IM Pei (the architect of the Louvre pyramid in Paris) designed this museum, which features the largest collection of Islamic art in the world. Located on its own purpose-built island, and amidst lush green lawns, the museum houses Islamic textiles, ceramics and enamel work. It hosts musical concerts, shows and open-air movies in the cooler months.
